Change of Blog Address

Dear all,

This is to inform you that I recently changed my blog address in order to increase privacy. The previous address had everyone googling my name ending up on my blog as the first link - which may or may not be a good thing. This is my new address. The problem is that it appears that someone has now taken my previous blog address and posted up an entry, resulting in some confusion. I would appreciate it greatly if those of you who linked to me using your own blogs change the link accordingly or take it down. Many thanks and I will update my new address soon.

Boston - A Blend of the Old and the New

If I had to pick one picture to represent Boston, it would be this.
A juxtaposition of the old and the new in one place...

A day spent strolling around through Harvard Square...
*In pictures: because I know some of you (and especially one of you ;-) ) love seeing the world through a viewfinder.
Harvard Square
The street leading to Harvard Square. I am fascinated by the pretty flowers hanging from the lamp posts. So pwetty!

Harvard Book Store
Don't you just love the smell of old books? Alright, so I'm nerdy that way...

The Entrance to Harvard University
The entrances tend to have the most fantastic engravings on them: either you feel inspired or highly amused at the old-fashioned mottos.

The American Dream

There's something strangely surreal and almost magical about walking around Cambridge, Massachusetts. Perhaps it is because this is only my second day here. Perhaps it is because I have never been to the United States before. Perhaps because it is summer and August and sunshine everywhere.

But it almost feels like being in a one of those American rom-coms. I almost expect 'The Puppy Song' from You've Got Mail to start playing as a I turn the street corner.

It surprises even me. I remember eagerly anticipating Cambridge three years ago, when I was a completely fresh undergraduate. I... (more)

Extracts of a First Letter from Boston

Dear all,

I have arrived safely in the States. Boston is very pretty - it has a river running through it and is right by the sea. The river reminded me of Prague but the feel is very cosmopolitan and American rather than the Old World laziness of Prague, making it feel like a cross between Prague and New York.

Attempted to use the subway for the first time today and was woefully inept at it. Finally, I had to use the intercom to ask how much to put on a ticket with the woman on the other line: yes, I'm going to Harvard Law School but no, I don't know how to buy a ticket. I am now... (more)

Graduation.

I owe many thanks to many people. Above all, I thank God for His remarkable grace. My achievement is not mine, but an illustration of the simple result of doing my best and leaving the rest to Him.

This is one of my dearest dreams come true:

Today, I finished the last Tripos exam of my Cambridge B.A. education.
It. feels. wonderful.
It's been an enriching three years: I am not the same person now that I was starting out, and it has been a fantastic legal experience studying here. I'm ready for the next stage.
For now, sun, picnics, punting, garden parties, May Ball and graduation!
I can't wait for it all to start. Can't wait for Friday! ;-)

Harvard Law School

God has an amazing way of making dreams come true. For the longest time, I have been worried about where I would end up next year, having existential crises about my life (the perennial "what am I going to do with my life?" questions), cringing everytime I walk by my pigeon hole waiting for the dreaded letter and wondering whether I would be able to get into the one place I knew I really wanted to go to:- Harvard Law School. Today, my dream came true.
"Dear __: On behalf of Harvard Law School's Committee on Graduate Studies, I am
delighted to inform you that you have been admitted to... (more)

And So It Begins Again...

Final year.
And. so. it. begins.
It's strange to think that it's been two years since my coming here as a bright-eyed, green young fresher.
It seems a long time ago. And also a very short time ago. It feels both eons ago and yet as if it was only yesterday.
The summer has flown by - several vac schemes, mini-pupillages and two weeks with the AG's Chambers in Malaysia followed by a month in which I refused to touch anything to do with Law.
That month was amazing. I only wish it could have been longer.
As it is, I'm back in Cambridge with the smell of new books, fresh lecture... (more)
